What are the benefits of Tai chi?

In China and even in some hospitals in United States, Tai chi is recommended for certain ailments. The benefits of Tai chi in improving the health have now been well established.

They are:

  • It reduces the stress.
  • It strengthens the nervous system.
  • It regulates the breathing system.
  • It strengthens the heart and its functions
  • It facilitates the elasticity of the muscles and joints.
  • It also facilitates the free flow of Chi
  • It relaxes the body and mind.
  • A relaxed and peaceful mind can concentrate in studies.

The Mind:

Your mind makes what you are. If your mind is not free and peaceful, it certainly affects your health. the following table shows how your thoughts affect different parts of your body.

Today we witness a continual increase in the incidence of domestic violence in the families. Any human being under stress, tension and emotional disturbances, will not be able to establish cordial interpersonal relationship with others be they family members or members of the society. The result; domestic violence The communal violence and other forms of violence in the society have their roots in disturbed or agitated mind.

As Tai-Chi is a spiritual experience or is likely to create a positive impact on the minds of the Youth and family members, it aids in reducing domestic and communal violence.

Tai Chi and Health:

WHO has established through medical research that 80% of all of our diseases are psychosomatic and `10% are psychogenic. In simple words, they are caused by troubled mind or mind under stress. It is in this context, the positive contribution of Tai Chi towards maintaining a healthy body is immense. It helps to maintain a healthy mind and eventually an empty mind. Once this stage is reached, the body gets the following benefits.

Continuous practice of Tai Chi strengthens the central nervous system which is the foundation of a healthy body. It regulates the breathing systems. Proper regulated breathe in and breath out sinks the Chi to the lower part of abdomen and hence the red corpuscles in the body gets more oxygen.

* It shall contribute to reduction in domestic violence as well as communal violence, if Tai Chi is practised by all the Family Members in the community.

The dance movements of Tai Chi are light but energetic. Therefore, in promotes the activities of the lympatic system, where the heart is located. Hence, in China and USA, many hospitals recommend Tai Chi to heart patients.

The dance movements of Tai Chi are in oval form like the movements of atom or planets in the solar system. This type of movement activates all joints and muscles of the body so that they get strengthened through regular practices.

The free flow of Chi gets blocked due to blocks in the meridian. This results in diseases. It is San Sung Feng who discovered that the blocked Chi would be restored through Tai Chi movements.

The medical science acknowledges the positive impact of a relaxed mind / body on the health of a person. Tai Chi helps one to maintain a relaxed body / mind.

Who can practice Tai chi?

Age is not a barrier to practise Tai chi. A five year child and also a 90 year one in very advanced age also can practice Tai chi. Continuous practice of Tai chi strengthens the mind and rejuvenates the body. The body retains the youthfulness. Moreover, it strengthens the lower part of the body as well as the thighs. The continuous power shift in the legs renders the powerful presence of the legs in the earth. A 70 year old man can also walk with the vigor of a youth.
